The heavyweight of the blue water.
Blue Marlin

- Typical size: 200 – 500+ lb · released
- Water: Offshore / Billfish
- Kept / Released: Catch & release
Blue marlin are the apex prize of Costa Rican offshore fishing — powerful, acrobatic and available all year. The green-season months of September through November often see the best marlin bite as bait pushes toward the coast, but blues are raised on the same grounds as sailfish throughout the year.
Where & when
Deep offshore structure, seamounts and the FADs, typically 20–45 miles out. Full-day charters give the range and hours the big blues reward.
How we fish it
Trolling large lures and rigged natural baits behind teasers. Heavier stand-up tackle and experienced crews make the difference on a big fish. All marlin are released.
