For serious thrill-seekers, El Chorro — 'jet gorge' — is a Class IV run on the upper Naranjo River, about 45 minutes from the Manuel Antonio area. The rapids charge through a narrow gorge and can build toward Class V, so no prior experience is required but you must be in good shape; minimum age 16 and safety kayakers ride along at all times. This dry-season trip runs January to May, about four hours door to door.
